Email Server Online - Update 2/12/2010 8:00a

We were experiencing down time with our Email server, but we are back online again. Emails from the back-up Email Server should be forwarded to your regular inbox. Should you wish to manually check for them the login information is below:

Login name = userid@ggroupcpas.com

Password = the four-digit-code we use on our office door pin pads

Missing Emails - Update 2/10/2010 10:30a

Many users have reported large losses of external emails (messages sent from clients).   ANS has been contacted about this issue.  However, I am not sure if they are open due to the blizzard like conditions.  I ask that you spare us a little more patience as we may not be able to recover these messages until later this week (if at all).

Email System Restored - Update 2/9/2010 3:00p

I am happy to report that our Email Server is back online.  ANS has made a fresh back-up of the servers so should  this occur again there will be a much quicker recovery.  However, they do not foresee this occurring again, which is music to my ears.

You can reach the web-based email at: http://mail.ggroupcpas.com/exchange.  Your username and password (the ones you use to login to your computers) will get you access.  If you have problems with your user ID, please try 'GCALAN/userid" as the login name (be sure to type your user id where it says userid and do not quotes).

Please understand that some messages may have not been recovered.  The database was being backed up when we lost power.  This caused the database and some of its information to become corrupt.  ANS had to use an earlier tape to recover the data, but they also had to delete the corrupted files.  Should you have missing messages,  please contact your clients and request they resend you the email.

System Wide Email Failure - Update 2/9/2010 9:30a

ANS has been working around the clock to repair, restore, and reconfigure our Email Server.  When we lost power, not only did our Email database get corrupted, but we also lost our nightly back-up from Friday night.  So if you have access to the L:\ drive, back-up your files ASAP. 

ANS has been able to recover the Email database and they are currently cleaning the server with a defrag.  The defrag could take several hours to complete, but once it is finished ANS will complete the repair and reinstall our Email Database.  So, we might be back online by the close of business today.

ANS  is also fixing the external email issue with our Back-up Email server.  We can send and receive internally, but  can  only send external.  Apparently there is a communication issue with our new email addresses, but ANS is addressing it and should have fixed soon. In the meantime, I urge everyone to login to the Back-up Email Server and start uploading contacts to your mailbox.  Another storm is on the way tonight and there's no telling how our building will handle it.

System Wide Email Failure - Update 2/8/2010 5:30p

GGCPA Members it seems our Email Database was corrupted during a "dirty" shutdown.  When we lost power the server did not have a chance to cleanly shutdown, so some files were corrupted.  ANS is working diligently to fix this issue, but reconstructing the database will take time.  In the meantime, please use our Back-up Email Server to send and receive messages.  You will not have access to old messages until ANS fixes the database, but you will be able to communicate in real time via Email using this server.

Please note this Back-up Email server works on only with our new email addresses (ggroupcpas.com).  Should anyone send something to your old address (@gcacpas.com) it will not come through to your inbox.  Furthermore, there is a tendency for emails from our Back-up Server to be filtered as SPAM, so please warn your clients to check their SPAM or JUNK folders for your messages.

System Wide Email Failure - Update 2/8/2010 12:30p

After rebooting and running some system tests, it has been discovered that our Email server is not functioning properly.  I have contacted ANS and they will be looking into the matter ASAP.  Currently, all users have access to the L:\ drive, so working on files won't be delayed.  However, email communication will be down until ANS and I can troubleshoot and solve the issue.
